TITLE OF THE GRANT: Structural and spectrophotometric characterization of biogenic and chemically synthesized systems in interaction with biostructures

THEME: 04-4-1121-2015/2020

YEAR: 2018

LABORATORY IN JINR: Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics (LNF)

PARTNERS IN ROMANIA: Faculty of Physics, University of Bucharest (FFUB)

RESPONSIBLE PERSONS: Lect. dr. Claudia CHILOM (FFUB), A.I. Kuklin (LNF)

OBJECTIVES:
The present project aims the study of the interaction mechanisms between biological structures - artificial bio-mimetic membranes (liposomes), cells and chemically synthesized ferrihydrite nanoparticles (free ferrichydrate particles and copper or cobalt doped ferrichydrate particles). Another goal is the evaluation of hemolytic activities and cytotoxic effects by in vitro testing of ferrichydrate nanoparticles.

ESTIMATED RESULTS:
    The main results expected from this investigation are:
  • morphological characterization of the ferrihydrate nanoparticles thin-film deposited on glass or silicon plates;
  • evaluation the mechanism of the binding of the ferrihydrate nanoparticles to liposoms;
  • evaluation of the haemolytic activity of the ferrihydrate nanoparticles;
  • evaluation of the ferrihydrate nanoparticles cytotoxic effects in normal and cancer cell lines.
